Host a CD Listening Party
What exactly is a CD Listening Party?
A CD Listening Party is exactly what it sounds like: a get together of friends in your living room, deck, or garden, with live entertainment, and often food, drinks and conversation. I prefer these kinds of performances, because of the coziness and intimacy of a live audience. It reminds me of a Cabaret Club, my favorite type of venue to perform in. It also gives me the chance, to really connect with a new audience as I expand my fan base. These days as an independent artist, it’s crucial that I do it! My CD “The Appointed Time” is compiled of 10 of my original songs; and has something for everyone. It’s a wonderful opportunity, to hear the stories behind the songs. It’s me LIVE and I’m pulling out all the stops! I even have some fun ways, for the audience to get involved.
I don’t have a big house. Can I still host a party?
Absolutely, the cozier and more intimate it is, the better. You don’t need a gigantic living room at all. That’s part of the magic of an afternoon, or evening like this.
How many people are usually expected?
That depends on your comfort level, and how many friends you have. It can be 10, 20, or as many as you like. The beauty of a party like this is that it is purposely more intimate and focuses on quality over quantity.
Can I book you at my clubhouse, coffeehouse or other appropriate venue?
Of course you can. I want this to be a wonderful experience for everyone.
Does it cost to host a house concert?
No, there is no cost to host a concert, but as a touring,” Independent Artist”, I really appreciate being able to set up a small area/table for my CD’s and merchandise display. Many CD Party Hosts will make an announcement in the beginning, and again during a break; letting their guests know that I’m available for a meet & greet and to sign CD’s and photos.
How do I plan this thing?
The beauty in a Listening Party is that they are low stress. Once we agree on a date, we can talk about a start time. Then you can setup a Facebook invite and/or shoot out emails to your network of friends, to let them know about it. Encourage them to bring a dish if you want, and it becomes potluck! Whatever happens, please don’t stress. It’s just like hanging out with your friends!
But I really don’t want strangers in my house.
This is usually a homeowner’s primary concern. They’re interested in hosting something, but don’t want it to be listed as a public event. Trust me, I completely understand. Simply call or email, family and friends that come to your home anyway. Whatever you’re comfortable with.
Okay I’m in, now what? What’s the order of events for the evening?
The order is pretty laid back. It’s usually great to give folks about 30 minutes or so to arrive, get comfortable, and connect a bit, before getting into music. Music can go as little as 1 hour or as long as 2. Usually, depending on how long the music is planned to go, there’s a break or “intermission” in the middle. This allows people to stretch their legs, get more food, and talk. This is also a great time for a quick one-on-one with Johnetta, visit the merchandise table, to get an autographed CD, signed photo, t-shirt, etc.
Now I’m really in, what’s next?
Wonderful, let’s do it! Leave your contact email address and we'll move forward. It’s also a great time to ask any further questions. After we agree on a date and time, you’ll receive a confirmation letter with tips on ways to make your CD Listening Party, a huge success. Thank you doesn’t come close!
